Here is a collection of some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the non-medical and medical services provided by Home Caregivers Home Health.
Q: How do I know when it is time to ask for help?
A: Caregivers and family members often wait until they are sick, stressed or beyond their abilities and circumstances before they ask for help. Ask for help before you are in crisis. Research has shown that caregivers are at a greater risk for stress related illnesses. Respite services help to preserve quality of the caregiver’s daily life, which makes them better able to provide quality care to their loved one. Most skilled services offered in hospital settings or nursing homes can safely be provide in the home allowing family members and patients security, comfort, safety and independence.
Q: What are the benefits of choosing Home Caregivers Home Health?
A: Home Caregivers Home Health is a locally owned and operated home health and personal care agency. We are responsive, generous, compassionate and affordable. We provide comprehensive and integrative care by becoming an important part of each client’s support system. We act as advocates and network with other community agencies to provide the most beneficial care. We provide a central place to access information about community resources and supply services such as home maintenance and medical supplies. By staying up to date with current community resources, we make life a little less complicated.
Q: Are your services covered by insurance?
A: We are Medicare and Medicaid certified. Most of our services are covered under these plans or under individual insurance policies. Many long-term care plans cover non-medical home care. Please check your individual policy or contact Home Caregivers. Personal care services, though often not covered by plans are affordable and care can be tailored to individual needs and resources.
Q: How can I finance my care if Medicare, Medicaid or Insurance won't assist?
A: Home Caregivers can help. If you own your home and are over 65 years of age, you may be eligible to participate in a government-sponsored program called Reverse Mortgages. Call Home Caregivers for more information.
Q: How are your employees selected?
A: All of our staff have endured a complete and thorough background and reference check. Each care provider is bonded and insured as well as thoroughly screened, trained and licensed through the state. If we would not send our staff and employees into our home, we will not send them into yours.
Q: What are your rates and minimum hours of service for personal care?
A: Our rates are dependent upon the time scheduled per day and range from $21.00 to $14.00 per hour. Twenty-four hour care is $225.00 per day plus room and board. Home Caregivers is aware that each individual has unique needs. We are committed to compassionate and attentive care that accommodates caregivers and their loved ones. Although we encourage three hours minimum per visit, in some circumstances we understand that less time is needed.
Q: What happens if my caregiver or nurse is sick?
A: We will provide an alternative health care provider. We will always let you know who the alternate is as well as inform them about the type of care and particulars involved.
Q: What if I don’t get along with my caregiver or nurse?
A: Each caregiver and nurse is carefully chosen to offer client’s and patient’s the very best in home care. This does not mean, every caregiver bonds with every client. In these cases, communication with the office staff is essential. If issues cannot be immediately resolved, Home Caregivers will assign a new caregiver. It is always our aim to meet the intimate needs of each of our clients and patients.
Q: Do you provide services in nursing homes or assisted living facilities?
A: Yes. There are times when residents of care facilities require additional attention or personalized care. Our services also extend to hospitals, where we accompany and advocate for our clients during a hospital stay.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: In order to provide our clients with quality and conscientious care and respect the time commitments of our dedicated employees we strongly discourage making untimely changes to the pre-arranged schedule. We are aware that sometimes schedule changes are unavoidable. If you provide three or more days notice to implement changes in your schedule there is no charge; two days notice of cancellation will be charged at one half the scheduled hours; one day notice of cancellation is charged for total time scheduled.
Q: Wouldn't it be less expensive to hire a person privately to care for my loved one rather than an agency?
A: Yes. However, the cost in the end may be much more expensive. Because you do not have the back up of an agency, you cannot conduct background checks, withhold appropriate taxes, or provide worker's compensation in case your caregiver is injured on your property. What will you do when the caregiver is sick, on vacation or simply doesn't show up for work? Who can you call to negotiate wages, vacation pay, sick leave etc.? What if the private caregiver steals something or invites strangers into the home? Though these scenarios seem unlikely, they do happen and they happen most often to the elderly. Despite the modest increase in cost, hiring a state licensed agency to provide care will give you and your family peace of mind and quality care.
Q: What is your billing policy?
A: For services not covered by insurance, an initial deposit of $50.00 is required to implement service. Invoices mailed every two weeks are due upon receipt.
