 “Home Comforters” is a wonderful and joyous program we offer at Home Caregivers,
bringing together expert quilters from the Salt Lake Valley with our pediatric patient’s
families to design and stitch an heirloom quilt keepsake for their sick child. This
is a celebration of the rich tradition
of quilting and artisanship in Utah and blesses our pediatric families with a keepsake
they can use and treasure always. Bringing community into the home is a gift beyond
the quilt and represents our vision of a new kind of home health care in Utah.
These wonderful and dedicated quilters ‘choose’ a child and their family and then
meet individually with them to discuss the interests, favorite colors, animals or
activities of the child in order to create a one of a kind quilt. Once the quilt
is done, the presentation is made to the child and family – everyone from Home Caregivers
shows up too, to ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ over the quilt and to enjoy the presentation.
We are excited to offer these quilts to our pediatric patients and their families
as a way to acknowledge their courage and hopefulness even in the face of tremendous
loss and suffering. We photograph the quilt with the child and quilter and these
photographs hang proudly on a special wall in our office. If you would like a one-on-one
